About YFood

What is YFood?

With yfood, you can eat well even when your life is hectic. Our nutrition drinks are the perfect alternative to fast food: tasty, affordable, balanced and wholesome. Alongside our milk-based and vegan drinks, we also offer yfood powders and bars. So you can be prepared for whatever your day has in store.

Where does YFood come from?

We are a young German company based in Munich. Our products, which are based on cutting-edge food technology, are all produced in Germany and Austria.

Products

What products does yfood offer?

yfood is available in four variants: as nutrition drinks (milk-based and vegan), bars and powders. So you can be prepared for whatever your day has in store.

When should I have YFood?

You can eat yfood at any time of the day - whether as breakfast, lunch, dinner or just as a snack in between. We recommend a conscious consumption of yfood in the context of a balanced and varied nutrition and which should be adapted to your physiological needs such as weight, body size and activity level.

Does YFood fill you up?

Of course, that's why we developed yfood in the first place. Thanks to the proteins and fibre it contains, it keeps you feeling full for several hours. And provides you with energy without being heavy on the stomach. How long you feel full naturally depends on your body size and how active you are. But the range is over several hours.

Can YFood help me lose or gain weight?

yfood offers you a balanced meal that satisfies your hunger and provides you with energy for hours. With yfood Ready-to-Drink Meals it is easy to count calories, because all products always contain the same nutritional values.

However, in addition to a balanced diet, in order to lose weight you also need to use more energy through exercise.

The same applies to weight gain. As yfood always contains the same nutritional values, it's very easy to use it to add “extra calories” to your normal food to increase the total amount of energy you take in.

What is maltodextrin?

The milk, soluble corn fibres and rice which we use as sources of carbohydrate all contain natural maltodextrin and sugar components.

Insulin-dependent diabetics should be aware that these have an impact on blood sugar levels.

However, since we are unable to make medical recommendations, we suggest you discuss this with your doctor.

I am diabetic. What do I need to be aware of?

If you are diabetic, due to a deficiency of the hormone insulin, eating foods containing carbohydrates leads to a spike of glucose in the blood and thus to an increase in blood sugar levels. The sugar found in our ingredients, e.g. milk or maltodextrin, also has an influence on blood sugar levels, which insulin-dependent diabetics should pay extra attention to.

However, we are not in a position to give medical advice, so if in doubt please check with your doctor.

What are the shelf life of your products?

Our drinks (classic and vegan) and bars have a shelf life of twelve months after production, while our powders have a shelf life of nine months. The one exception here are our Lassi drinks, because due to their special composition, they only have a shelf life of four months from production.
Aside from that, we are keen not to waste food or resources. This is why we also sell products that no longer have the full twelve-month shelf life left. Of course, we make sure that you are never sent a product that is due to expire.

YFood Drink

What is our YFood drink?

Our drinks are wholesome complete meal replacements. In other words, yfood assuages your hunger for several hours and provides you with energy without sitting heavily in your stomach. A yfood drink (500 ml) covers around 25% of your daily energy requirements (assuming an energy requirement of 2,000 kcal).

How many calories are in YFood drinks?

A 500 ml bottle contains 500 kcal or 25 percent of the recommended daily dose (assuming an energy requirement of 2,000 kcal).
The 330 ml bottles contain 330 kcal and make the perfect between-meals snack.

Do YFood drinks need to be refrigerated?

In a nutshell: no. yfood drinks do not need to be kept chilled. Yet they still have a shelf life of twelve months from the date of production. To achieve this, we have spent many years working with experienced food technology experts. Best of all, our complex, high-tech manufacturing process means we don't use any preservatives at all.

One small tip: Since the drinks taste better when lightly chilled, we suggest that you put them in the fridge for a couple of hours before enjoying them.

One small exception: due to their special composition, our Lassis only have a shelf life of 4 months.

What allergens do YFood drinks contain?

Our classic yfood drinks contain milk (<0.1 g lactose/100 ml), which becomes lactose-free during the production process through the addition of lactase. They are in principle gluten-free and contain no residues of common allergens such as soy or nuts.

Our vegan alternative, on the other hand, is based on soy – but it is milk-free.

Why do you use milk/milk protein?

The answer is simple: milk tastes good – and it is by its very nature a highly nutritious food, which contains numerous vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Milk protein, in particular, which is made up of whey protein and casein, has a balanced and complete amino acid profile. Even more simply put: milk protein delivers very high-quality protein.
Since we add lactase enzymes during the production process, you can also enjoy our drinks even if you are lactose-intolerant. Our vegan drinks are based on soy, so they are naturally lactose-free.

Are YFood drinks vegetarian/vegan?

Some are vegetarian, some are vegan: our classic nutrition drinks contain low-fat milk – and are therefore vegetarian. However, there is a delicious vegan variant of our drinks based on soy.

Why do your drinks come in plastic bottles? What about recycling?

Unfortunately, we do need to use plastic bottles to protect our products from light and oxygen. This ensures that even months later you can still get all the nutrients you need without the use of any preservatives. What's more, the bottles that we use for our nutrition drinks are made of between 30 and 50% recycled plastic – and that figure is rising all the time.
In Germany, our vegan drinks are already part of the bottle deposit scheme. We are currently working out when our milk-based nutrition drinks can join the deposit scheme in light of the new packaging laws. The most important thing here is that all our bottles are 100% recyclable.
In order to dispose of our bottles correctly, remove the aluminium seal, screw the lid back onto the bottle and throw everything into the recycling bin or bag.
You can find more information about this here.

Are YFood drinks suitable during pregnancy?

Yes, in principle. After all, our drinks are ultra-heat-treated and aseptically filled. This removes any concern you may have about potentially harmful microbes.
However, our "Cold Brew Coffee" variety is not suitable for use during pregnancy due to its caffeine content.
We basically don't make any medical recommendations. Instead we would recommend that you discuss your consumption of yfood with your midwife or GP.

YFood Powder

What allergens does the yfood powder contain?

yfood powders contain (lactose-free) milk protein and gluten-free oat fibres. This means that all our products can be consumed by people with lactose or gluten intolerance. If you have a general milk protein or wheat allergy, they are only of limited suitability.

How many calories are in YFood powder?

It's easy for you to work this out for yourself: one measuring spoon contains 100 kcal. We recommend a mixing ratio of four level spoonfuls to 300 ml water – which means your shake has 400 kcal. On this basis, you can adjust the ratio to suit your own individual level of hunger.

What is the difference between the drinks and powder?

In principle, the same valuable ingredients can be found in both the drinks and the shakes. A shake you have mixed yourself may have a slightly powdery consistency, as the powder is only mixed with water in the shaker and does not undergo a more thorough heating and mixing process.
You do, however, have more options with the shakes. For one thing, you can determine your own mix ratio – and thus adjust the consistency and the calorie content. For another, the powder is much lighter and easier to transport when you're on the move. The 17 balanced meals contained in a single pack weigh just one and a half kilos. And the lack of liquid has another benefit: you can take yfood powder with you on a plane – so it's ideal for stressful business trips or your next holiday abroad. If you want to find out more about the similarities and differences between our drinks and our powders, read our blog.

Does the powder come with a free YFood shaker?

Of course, if you don't have your own shaker yet, just tick the relevant box when ordering. Then you will get a yfood shaker free with your first delivery.

How do I prepare YFood powder?

It's really easy. You need 300 ml of water and four levelled scoops for the classic powder or three heaped scoops for the vegan powder.
And then: lid on, shake for 10 seconds – and chill it in the fridge for five to ten minutes. That gives the fibre a bit of time to settle. Then simply just enjoy.
What's more, the measuring spoon we provide is made from injection moulded paper. In other words, it is made from organic material, BPA-free, home compostible and Made in Germany! Of course, this means it isn't dishwasher-safe and will warp if exposed to heat.

YFood Bar

What is our YFood bar?

We specialise in wholesome nutrition drinks. But sometimes, like you, we just fancy a snack. That's why we developed our yfood bars. They contain 25 valuable vitamins and minerals, but at 60 g they fit in any pocket – ready for when you're feeling peckish.

How many calories are in YFood bars?

One bar (60 g) contains 180 or 220 kcal (depending on the variety) and is thus ideal for keeping hunger at bay between meals.

Why do the YFood bars contain oligofructose syrup and inulin?

Both these ingredients are dietary fibres and thus have a role to play: these plant-based fibres expand in your stomach. That's what helps you feel full.

Where does the high protein content of YFood bars come from?

The high protein content of our bars comes from milk protein. With a strong 13 or 14 g protein content, yfood bars are ideal snacks for before or after a workout.

What allergens do YFood bars contain?

Our bars are gluten-free – but they do contain wheat, milk and soy. If you are allergic to nuts, the "Salted Caramel & Chocolate" bar is ideal for you as it is made without nuts. The "Coconut & White Chocolate" and "Hazelnut & Chocolate" bars, on the other hand, do contain nuts.

YFood Vegan

What allergens does the vegan version contain?

Our vegan yfood contains soy protein, lecithine (soy) and gluten-free oat fibre.

How many calories are in YFood vegan?

Like our milk-based drinks, a 500 ml bottle of the vegan variant contains 500 kcal and thus covers around 25% of your daily energy requirements (assuming an energy requirement of 2,000 kcal).

Why is soy used (instead of alternatives like oats, pea protein, etc.)?

We chose soy primarily for its excellent amino acid profile. In other words, soy is a very good source of protein. And the soy-based drinks taste great too.

Where does your soy come from? Is it sustainable?

Most of the soy used in our drinks comes from Europe. Variations in local availability mean that occasionally we have to order small quantities from the USA. In any case, we always ensure that our soy is not genetically modified.
